No night shut-off switch, but the chime is a pleasing tone and sound level. To minimize shipping costs, this clock needs minor assembly. The only tool needed is a phillips screwdriver to insert 8 machine screws, a process that will take you les than 10 minutes start-to-finish, and comes with excellent assembly instructions.
