Install a Jumbo Wall Aquarium INSIDE Your Wall

These instructions will clarify different installation options covering wall and aquarium widths and access for cleanings.

Accessing 'Wall Aquariums'
Access for cleanings and feedings is needed (cleaning instructions below). You can leave one side of the wall open or cover both sides with picture-frame style trim and have the top trim piece flip open.

Example: A 'Wall Aquarium' between two rooms with both sides presentable.

Side A
Access is under trim.

       Side B

  • Access is under top piece of trim.
    • Trim pivots on Invisible hinges.
    • Hinges secured to back of trim and underside of opening.
  • Our 'Square trim' and 'Curved trim' used here however baseboard trim makes a good alternative.

Wall and aquarium widths
Depending on the width of your wall, your aquarium will either sit flush or overhang it.
There are 4 wall configurations (installation instructions below).

Example: An 8" wide aquarium ('Jumbo Wall Aquarium') in a standard 412" wall.

Side A
Wall and aquarium are even (flush).

Side B
Aquarium overhangs wall 312".

  • The 'Jumbo Wall Aquarium' is 8" wide and has 312" overhang on a standard 412" wall (Side B).

Other options include:

  • Have the aquarium overhang 134" on both sides.
  • Widening wall to 814".
    • Build drywall out from finished wall.
    • Finish edges with corner beads.

Basic wall structure

  • Basic 16" stud wall with aquarium opening.
  • 112" thick plywood board used for bottom of opening.
  • 34" thick plywood boards used for sides and top of opening.
  • Board's width equals aquarium's width plus 14".
  • Shims are used between boards and studs for leveling.
  • Depending on wall and aquarium widths, boards will be set flush or overhanging wall
(see 'Installing aquarium with 1" overhang').
  • Opening height determines ease of maintenance.

Cleaning 'Wall Aquariums'

A 'Wall Aquarium' cleans like a normal fish tank. We recommend that you do small frequent water changes, 10% to 20%, every 2-4 weeks. This will have to be done more often if your tank is over stocked or under filtered. Cleaning everything in the aquarium as well as changing all the filter material in your filter is a deadly combination. This alters the chemical values within the aquarium and reduces the amount of beneficial bacteria dramatically and can cause fish to go into a state of shock and die. Small frequent water changes are suggested along with partial changes of the filter material every month. Any filter material should only be rinsed with aquarium water that has been taken out of the tank. Do not use tap water. This will preserve the beneficial bacteria that help decompose toxic waste.
The easiest way to remove your water is through a siphon. Any tube that's 4 feet long will work but specialty cleaning siphons will suck up more waste.

IMPORTANT!

It is the responsibility of the owner and installer to make sure this aquarium is properly supported and secured against falling.

The manufacturer of this aquarium assumes no liability whatsoever for any accident or water damage caused by this aquarium.
